My thoughts on 4th edition (particularly how it affects FR)

Filed under: Role playing — Tags: — Duane @ 12:52 pm

It’s been awhile since I have done a post on anything bar the girls and life in general, but this is something that has been on my mind a bit so I thought I would post it. It has to do with the new edition of D&D (Dungeons and Dragons for those not in the know) and my thoughts about it. So if you are not into RPGs, better skip this post.

Tribute to the master – Farewell Gary Gygax

Filed under: Role playing — Duane @ 7:29 pm

Like many RPG bloggers today, this post is in honour of Gary Gygax who passed away after a long illness today. I never had the honour of meeting the man, but like all who played D&D if you knew the history you knew the role Gary Gygax played. I have played for quite awhile now and also had the pleasure of reading some of novels – the Gord the Rogue series. (Damn this is harder than I thought it would be)

There have been a few losses the last year and more – David Gemmell at the end of ’06, Robert Jordan last year, plus the news that Pratchett has an illness, Brust has an eye condition and now this to top it off.

Farewell to the man who has provided me and others so much enjoyment over the years. Your contribution will be cherised and missed.

My new Greenbond class

To finish up the week (unsure if I will have time on the weekend to continue this) I will detail my alternate Greenbond class. The druid of Arcana Evolved as I like to think of it incorporates the druid of D&D and the greenbond of AE. As always if you are not interested in RPGs, skip this post.

My new Druid class

Continuing on the theme for the week, this post looks at the the Druid class. Now this is not your average D&D druid, and I might have to change the name, but my intention was to have the druid more reflect the celtic druid from times of old. So as always if you are not interested in RPGs, skip this post.

My new Cleric class

Well so far it looks like no-one has read a single post in regard to my class thoughts so far, but that’s fine. This helps me understand in my head what I am trying to achieve with the classes, and help the thought process on things I am stuck on at the moment as well. Today’s class look is at the cleric. As always if you don’t care about RPGs, don’t read any further.

My new Bard class

So here is my rationale for the Bard class modifications that I made. I am quite happy with it actually, I just need to decide what higher level abilities to give the class. The Bard class (which can be found HERE) has always been one of my favourites as you can cast spells, some fighting prowess and sneaky stuff if need be as well. In BG2 my character was a bard and when most of the way through I was going up levels more often than the other members of the party (but that was 2e rules). As always, if you are not into RPGs, it would not be worthwhile reading any further.

My new Mage class

I wanted to do this last week, but with the public holiday on Monday and busy reading last week I didn’t get the chance. What I want to do is briefly detail what changes I have made for the core classes for my roleplaying world and why. So if you are not into RPGs, skip this post. Today’s is the Mage (old Wizard core class) as that is what started the ball rolling for me. So read on and let me know what you think!

Gaming Thoughts

The first post in regard to gaming from me. Those of you who have been reading the productivity/Office posts will probably skip this one unless you are interested in role playing games. But if you are intrigued, read on. I will be venting some thoughts I have had for my own system here to get them out of my head and hopefully clarify some of the thoughts I have been having.
